Vampire’s Blood By: Charlene Patton
Chapter 1: The stranger
(past)
It was many years ago when a young girl named Carina Ronesi at the age of about 17, was changed into a vampire against her will. She could remember it as if it was yesterday. The day she met him, the man that changed her life. The night was one of its darkest as the stars glistened, and twinkled with the full moon glowing blood red as the sign of the devil. Eerie sounds came from all directions as she made her way down the streets. Cats meowed with a high pitched screech that can be heard miles away. The wind made a howling noise that made ones own heart beat twice as much. The wind was starting to pick up as the night slowly came to its darkest.
Carina slowly walked silently down the empty street with the evening sack of food. Her family was not one of the wealthiest of the town but they somehow managed during the day. Her father was hardly home. He was always working for some family or cleaning a store. It was really any place he could find that would accept him for work. Her mother couldn’t work because she would have to stay home and attend to the other children. It wasn’t something she liked to do herself but when her mother needed her help she would be there. Carina slowed her pace and stopped at a shops mirror she looked at it closely. She sighed some, while looking at her reflection. She was wearing a long red dress that was worn quite frequently because there were a lot of loose strands and some parts were patches of a different color. The only thing that Carina was proud of was the way she looked. She came out with her mother’s dark blue eyes which were truly something she was glad of. Her father had told her that her mother’s eyes were like looking into the clear depths of the ocean. She had long brown hair that ran down to her shoulders. There was a little bit of a wave to it. Her bangs a lot of times would get in her eyes and it always bothered her. She would have to trim them soon. .
She looked away from the mirror and lowered her gaze to the ground. She sighed yet again as thoughts of maybe meeting someone in the future were highly unlikely. She opened her eyes and raised her head and continued her way home. The sack banged against her leg as it usually did when she made her way home. She stopped as the house came into view. Her mother had left the light on as she does often when she is away getting food. She shrugged her shoulders and was about to go to the front door when a man bumped into her. Carina fell to the ground, her sack of food spilling all over the ground. Carina rubbed her eyes and then quickly began to pick of the contents of spilled food and put them back into the sack. The man that ran into began to help Carina put the contents food back into the bag. Carina looked at the man but couldn’t see his face because it was shielded by the night. She lowered her gaze, “I’m sorry sir I must have not looked where I was going.” She said while she was picking the food up.
The man chuckled some, “It wasn’t your fault my lady.” He said in a very low voice. Carina was continuing to pick up the food when a strand of hair fell over her face. Before she could fix it the man looked at her and brought his hand to her cheek. Carina blushed some, she had never had anyone touch her besides her family and this man seemed new to the village. The man smiled again. “Is there something wrong miss,” He asked.
Carina lowered her gaze to the ground. He still had his hand on her cheek. He lowered his hand to her chin and lifted her gaze to his face. She still could not see his face. “Excuse me sir, I was rude and never asked for your name?”
The man sighed some and moved his hand away and placed it to his side. “I’m sorry my lady, my name is Micheal,” He said.
Before she could answer her father opened the door to see what was taking Carina so long. The wind picked up and Carina had to cover her eyes to shield herself. The wind died down and Carina opened her eyes and Micheal was gone. All that was left was the bag with all the food in it and a black rose on top. Carina picked up the black rose. She winched a little as a thorn cut her finger.
She dropped the rose and looked up at her father. “Carina are you okay?” Her father asked.
Carina blinked some and watched as a drop of blood fell to the ground. “I’m fine father,” she replied.
She placed her finger in her mouth. She looked over at the empty street almost hoping to catch a glimpse of Micheal but there was no sign of him. She looked at the rose that laid on the ground. She picked it back up and looked at it closely. “You don’t see roses like that. Where did you get it Carina?” Her father asked.
She smiled some. “It was given to me as a gift father that is all.”
She sighed some and walked toward the house. Her father silently followed her back. Carina didn’t know this, but she just marked the vampire’s book with her signature in blood.
Chapter 2: The Nightmare of Reality
(past)
Carina yawned some as the day was beginning to turn to dusk. The sun slowly set and the family was getting ready to eat. Carina sighed and walked out of her room to the kitchen where her mother was preparing dinner. Carina still couldn’t forget what had transpired the night before. It was so strange, she had never seen the man before and he had vanished without saying a word. She sighed in frustration. Carina’s mother turned around and crossed her arms. “Young lady you have been out of it since you got home yesterday. What is going on?” Her mother asked.
Carina looked away from her mother. “Nothing mother, I was only thinking. I have a lot on my mind that’s all.” She said is a low voice.
Carina’s mother grunted some and went back to cooking. Carina’s siblings ran around the kitchen playing tag. Carina decided to go outside for some time to herself. She stretched her arms and headed for the door. When she placed her hand on the doorknob her father came in. “Carina I know you have a lot on your mind but now isn’t the time to dwell on whatever is the problem. You know I need your help in these though days so please get your head back to the present.” He asked.
Carina sighed some more and crossed her arms. “Father I am fine, I promise there’s nothing wrong. I have my head in the right place honest. I am just going outside for some fresh air.”
Carina turned back around and opened the door and stepped outside. She somewhat shut it loudly but that didn’t seem to get her parents attention. She leaned against the door and looked up at the sky. The moon was hidden behind some clouds. The stars were really bright tonight.
There was a noise coming from the forest. She couldn’t make out what it was and it seemed to have faded. She wanted to see what it was. She walked toward the forest. Her parents had told her to never go alone but she was curious to what the sound was. It was like a howl of a wolf but the melody was so beautiful. She quickened her pace and came to a small clearing. She decided to stop and catch her breath, but as she did, a twig snapped behind her. She turned around slowly. A man stood with his arms crossed leaning against a tree. Carina froze. The man had long black hair tied behind his back. He wore a black trench coat with his cuffs hanging out and his collar sticking up. He had on, what looked liked A black laced shirt with long black pants that puffed out near the knees, with black leather boots. The belt he wore had gold buckles and silver buttons. He looked like he was only twenty years old. His face was really pale and his pose was that of someone well mannered. Carina looked away trying hard to act like she didn‘t see him. “Excuse me my lady for scaring you. It was really rude and not something a gentleman would do.” He said with great poise.
Carina looked back at him and lowered her gaze. “My lord I don’t know what to say, I had thought I would not see you again and yet I just met you. Why would anyone with your ranking want to talk to someone like me?” she asked in a curious way.
Micheal chuckled some and smiled. “Well miss I certainly would not have helped you out if it was that way. I don’t look at people by ranks which some do now a days.”
Carina blushed heavy and had a hard time finding the words to say. “My Lord I don’t know what to say, I have never met anyone like you.”
Micheal eyes turned from his brownish color to a red like color for only a moment. Carina had to blink some to see if she was only dreaming. She looked back at him and it was brown again. “My lady I assure you, I am not like most people. They don’t share some of the characteristics that I have.” He said in a low voice almost a hint of a dare to see behind it.
Carina smiled some. “What do you mean my lord Micheal? What type of characteristics are you talking about?” She asked.
Micheal smiled with amusement. “Do you really want to know lady Carina? I can show you if you wish?”
Carina wasn’t sure what he was getting at. It couldn’t have been that bad as he implied it. She placed her hands on her hips. “My lord I am sure it can’t be that bad, Can you please just tell me what it is?” She paused for a moment. “Excuse me I was being rude.”
He laughed some before he answered. “Not at all Carina.” You were being honest. Of course I will show you. You may find this quite amusing also.” he explained while stepping closer to her.
Carina stepped back some. She didn’t know what was going on and she was a little uneasy because first of all she had never had anyone of his status to talk to her and she didn’t know this man and wasn’t sure what kind of person he was. She placed her hands in front of her. “Wait! Please I don’t want to know anymore,” She screamed.
She stepped back a little too far and fell down. She sat up and rubbed her arm. Micheal ran to her and picked her up. “Miss are you okay? I didn’t mean to scare you,” He said in a whisper.
He kissed her cheek passionately and ran his hand through her hair. Carina tried to push him away but he grabbed her hand and looked at it noticing a small cut on her finger. “What did you do my lady?” He asked worriedly.
Carina shut her eyes. “It’s nothing I cut it on the black rose you gave me.”
He chuckled some. “Really well I’m sorry I shouldn’t have given you something that would hurt an innocent flower like you. Please forgive me.”
He gently touched her finger and brought it to his lips. Carina’s heart beat faster as he gently kissed her finger where the cut was. She shut her eyes and moaned a little. He stopped and looked at her face. Carina opened her eyes and looked at him. There was something different about him he seemed to want this all along. Micheal kissed her cheek and slowly left a trail of kisses down to her neck. Then he searched for her pulse. Carina wrapped her arms around Micheal as he continued to kiss her neck. Then without warning she felt a sharp pinch. Carina tried to get away from Micheal but he was to strong. His fangs slide down his chin. He punctured her skin and his fangs slide into her vein. He then began to draw blood. Carina tried to scream out for help but could not find her voice. Her strength was slowly leaving her and she was feeling light headed. Micheal with drew and glared down at her. “I tasted your blood and now I can track you wherever you go. Don‘t make this harder then it already is. I don‘t want to hurt you, but if you give me a reason I will.” He explained.
Carina couldn’t believe what was happening. This was like some kind of nightmare. Things became blurry and the images around her were fading. “What’s happening to me?” She said in a faint voice.
The last thing she could remember was a voice saying. “Soon….Soon.”
Chapter 3: The End of Time
(past)
Carina woke the next night screaming. She stood up quickly and placed her hand to her head. She was running a slight fever and she was sweating all over. “What happened? I guess it was just a nightmare.” She assured herself.
Carina stood up and walked to her nearby desk mirror. She sighed some and grabbed her brush and began to brush her hair. Something didn’t seem right at all. She moved her hair from one side to the other and noticed two tiny marks on her neck. She placed her brush down and looked at them closely. She thought back to last night but she couldn’t remember what could have occurred to make marks like these.
As Carina got up there was a knock at the door. She jumped back in surprise as the door opened. Her mother looked in a little worried. “Carina, dear are you alright?” Carina’s mother asked.
Carina rubbed her eyes and took a deep breath. It was only her mother and she didn’t know why she was so jumpy. “I’m alright mother. What’s troubling you? You seem a little worried. I assure you I am fine why wouldn’t I be?” she asked.
Carina’s mother shook her head. “Well you see you were gone really late last night and a young man brought you back. You were out cold and was bitten by some kind of animal.”
Carina placed her hand to her neck. She traced over the marks with her fingers. “So that’s what it is. I don’t remember what I did last night at all.”
She sat down on her bed and placed her hands over her eyes. Her voice was muffled by her hands and her mother could barely make out what was being said. Carina removed her hands and looked at her mother. “Who was the man that brought me home mother?” she asked slowly.
Carina’s mother continued to shake her head. “He is a dashing young lad, but there’s something about him I don’t trust.” she replied with a slight hint of annoyance.
Carina raised an eyebrow. “Mother who is this young man?”
“He’s downstairs if you really want to see him. Frankly I don’t understand your father letting people in the house all the time. Get dressed and come see him I guess.” She sighed.
Carina’s mother walked out of the room and closed it silently. Carina didn’t understand her mother’s odd behavior but figured she was just worried about things lately. She rushed to her closet and tried to find something decent but she really didn’t have anything. Her face dropped some and she shut the closet. “I guess what I’m wearing will have to do. My nightgown will have to do, but mother will kill me. It can’t be that big of a deal”. She said to herself.
She looked in the mirror and fixed her hair with the best of her ability, and ran out of her room. She ran to kitchen where her mother, father and where Micheal was. She stopped in her tracks and stared at him. She didn’t know why but her hands touched her throat. Carina’s mother stood up at once. “Carina! Don’t you have some decency?”
Carina blushed some a little embarrassed for not wearing anything different but as she looked at Micheal something seemed a little odd about him, but she considered that after last night she was not being herself. Micheal turned around and smiled up at her. “Don’t worry miss, I am not taking any offense by this at all.” he said in a sweet voice.
Carina’s father sighed some and stood up. “He saved you and I’m in your dept Micheal. That must have been one heck of a snake. Carina do you remember anything at all about last night,” he asked.
Carina couldn’t keep her eyes off of Richardo. “No, father I don’t remember anything about last night. I guess the shock must have made me forget.” she said softly.
Carina then was able to look away from Micheal. She sighed some a little relieved but a little disappointed as well. Carina’s father and mother gave a worried glance at each other for a moment. Then Carina’s mother spoke. “Well we thank you Micheal, but we think its best you head on your way.”
Micheal stood up and bowed. “As you wish. “he answered.
He headed toward the door and stopped side to side with Carina. “I shall see you again my lady.” he whispered as he walked outside.
Carina sighed some more. Her heart was beating faster. Her insides felt like they were on fire. She shut her eyes trying to calm herself down. It was strange that her body reacted wanting him when he left. She looked at her parents and felt a little light headed. “Mother, I am not feeling all to well so I think I will go to bed. If that’s alright with you?” she asked.
They nodded their heads as Carina walked upstairs in her room. She shut the door and laid down on her bed. “What’s wrong with me?” she asked silently.
Her marks on her neck began to burn. It was getting a little too uncomfortable.
She placed her hand to her neck. She heard a sound at her window and turned around. As she turned around it suddenly bust open with a strong wind coming at her. She covered her eyes trying to shut the scene out. Then she heard a voice reach out to her heart, and her soul. “Carina come to me,” said the soft voice.
Carina opened her eyes to see Micheal at her window smiling at her. She couldn’t help but go to him. She walked to the window drawn to him. He placed his hand to her cheek. “Carina…my dear.” he whispered softly as he picked her up out of the window.
He was floating toward the evening moon. Carina was not herself. She held on to him as tight as she could. She shut her eyes feeling the cool air wrap itself around her body. She reopened her eyes and looked up at Micheal. “Where are we going?” She asked.
He looked down in her eyes and then kissed her lightly on the lips. “Some place where we can be alone together for all eternity.” He replied.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered softly to him. “That’s fine.”
She didn’t know what she was getting herself into. Since she was bitten by Micheal she had fallen into his trap and seemed drawn to him. It was the curse of the bite to make her seem that he was the only thing that mattered. He reached a small area by a lake and set her down gently. She looked up at him wishing he hadn’t let her go. She blushed a little as he sat down and motioned for her to sit on his lap. She obeyed and walked up to him and sat in his lap. She looked up at him once more. Her heart was beating faster and head began to spin a little. Micheal held Carina close to him. His skin was cold as snow. “Micheal are you cold?” she asked.
Micheal sighed some and ran his fingers through his hair. “Not at all Carina, I am fine.” He assured her.
Carina leaned against his chest. Micheal wrapped his arms around her shoulder and kissed her gently on her forehead. “My dear Carina. I love you with all my heart and I want to spend all eternity with you. I want to show so many things. I want to see you smile just for me knowing who, and what I am.” He said as he ran his hands down her arms.
Carina shut her eyes. “What do you mean who, and what you are?” she asked a little confused.
Micheal looked up at the stars. Carina also did the same. “I am about to make you into what I am. You will soon know all I know, and experience all the things I have gone through.” He said softly still keeping his gaze at the stars.
Carina still didn’t understand but she wanted to be with him forever. She was willing to accept it not knowing the whole story behind what he was saying. Carina sighed some and kissed Micheal on the cheek. “I want to be with you. I want to experience everything you experience. Please let me stay with you Micheal.” she asked looking in his eyes.
Micheal held her close to him never wanting to let her go. “I promise to take care of you forever, and I will always be at your side no matter what. I will teach you all I know. Carina I will never do anything to hurt you.” He replied while he lowered his mouth to her neck.
Carina’s heart began to beat faster. Micheal stopped inches away. “Don’t be scared. It will be over soon enough.” He whispered.
Carina shut her eyes as Micheal’s fang slowly slide down his chin and punctured through the skin in her neck to the vein underneath. Carina shook violently scared on what was happening. Micheal used his strength to hold her still. He began to draw her blood into him keeping Carina still enough not to disrupt that. Carina couldn’t scream or reach out. She clenched her fists trying to think of a way out of this. She got herself into this and she had to get herself out. Her strength slowly began to fade away. She lowered her arms to side and her heart beat began to slow down. Micheal held her hands as he continued to draw her blood. Her skin was beginning to get pale. Micheal pulled himself away and looked at Carina. He moved toward her ear and whispered softly, “I love you Carina.”
Carina moved her fingers a little bit but that was all that came out of Carina. Micheal took his wrist to his lips and sank his teeth into his skin making two punter marks. Blood ran down his arm and dripped to the ground. He used his arms as a pillow for Carina as he brought his wrist to her lips. “Drink this Carina. This will give you immortality,” he spoke softly.
Carina didn’t have time to think about her situation. She began to drink the blood from his wrist. Micheal shut his eyes and waited a few minutes as Carina began to drink. She opened her eyes and moved her head away from his wrist and crawled away frightened while blood dripped from the corner of her lips. She stopped to try and take a deep breath. Micheal watched Carina silently as she crawled away. Carina stopped and all of a sudden there was excutionating pain deep inside her. She fell to the ground as her insides were set on fire. Carina dug her fingers into the ground as the pain continued to spread. “What’s happening to me…..oh my God! Micheal help me!” she screamed as the pain continued to burn her insides.
Micheal sighed some as he began to heal his wrist. “It’s nothing to be scared of. The pain will soon go away and you won’t have to witness such a word like pain again.”
Carina‘s heartbeat slowly went down to its last beat. Her hearing started to increase when the faintest sound of human heartbeats filled her ear drum. She opened her eyes and they were as clear as water. She sat up and looked around her surroundings. Micheal knelt down beside her and stared down at her for a moment before offering his hand. She took his hand and stood up in his arms. “Carina welcome to my world.” He chuckled.
